  • My Dorky Halloween

Attended Halloween Party with "Credit Default Swap" theme =  +2 dork-points
Tombstones for dissolved companies as decor =  +1 dork-point

Is there anything more frightening than the current economic scare? The news about established financial institutions disappearing overnight, market volatility, rising unemployment, and billions of lost wealth sure scares the heck outta me! Eeeks! RIP Lehman, Bear Sterns, and others...

    Not wearing a slutty costume =  +1 dork-point
Not a single slutty costume amongst my good friends (gasp!) =  +2 dork-points

Me with the girls. Not sure how we all ended up with non-slutty costumes, as that is definitely not the norm. Unacceptable, girls! We must compensate for this next year... By the way, I'm the one in the white in the center. Can you guess my costume by this photo alone (without peeking at the clues further below)?

Friend who researched legal matters for costume props =  +1 dork-point
Below left : Joe-six-pack looks very concerned about how the economic crisis will affect Main Street. And see those fake US $20 bills? My friend actually scanned and printed them out, which is normally considered a felony. But he carefully researched the matter and learned that printing out bills enlarged by 25% is perfectly legal. Hmm.. interesting...

    Friend with Pun-inspired costume =  +1 dork-point
    Friend with biology-related costume =  +2 dork-points
Below right : A red, pointed hat / a chain with the letter "G" / a double helix tattoo on his bicep / "ACGT" on his fist / wifebeater .... What could my friend be? Why, he's a "G-gnome" (genome), of course! (I can't lie. I totally wish I thought of this first. So clever!)

    Friend dressed as sci-fi character =  +1 dork-point
Female friend who got "ugly" for Halloween =  +1 dork-point
    Another friend with Pun-inspired costume =  +1 dork-point

Below left : Roaring 20's flapper and Riddick.
    Below right
: Hockey mom and "Change". (Can't see it from this angle, but my friend had blown-up cut-outs of coins taped all over his suit).

Dressed up as a part of a couples or group costume =  +2 dork-points
Dressed up as Pixar or Disney characters =  +2 dork-points
    Dressed up as sci-fi characters =  +2 dork-points

Derek and I dressed up as Wall-E and Eve! For those who haven't watched the adorable film and don't know who Eve is... She is the sleek, sexy, sophisticated robot that dazzles the modest, rugged, and lonely Wall-E.  I won't reveal any more than that because you should watch the movie. It really is a wonderful story!

Did the robot dance dressed as robots =  +10 dork-points

    Constructed home-made costumes =  +2 dork-points
Used industrial strength tape and cardboard for costume (Wall-E) =  +1 dork-point
Wore flashing LED lights for costume (Eve) =  +2 dork-points

I am so proud that both of our costumes were created and assembled ourselves!  Okay, so all I did was blow up an image of Wall-E on PS, print it out, and slap it onto a cardboard box. And maybe the pet cockroach was somewhat shoddily constructed. But for a girl who totally lacks the crafty-gene, the success* of this project was a big deal!

    * Crafting success = no injuries during DIY phase & recognizable product that did not fall apart

Enjoyed our awesome costumes and stayed in character =  +2 dork-points

Below left : A compacted Wall-E. (hahaha. His imitation was so stupid and funny.)
Below right : Wall-E refueling. Didn't you know that Wall-E runs on beer? haha.

    Final Tally = 36 total dork-points for Halloween 2008!

Hope everyone had a helluva Halloween!
