  • Political Cartoons: An Analysis of the Cartoon Vote

The Republicans have brought voter fraud charges against ACORN, an organization that recently registered the likes of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.

But, really, I'm not sure why the GOP is so upset about this. The cartoon demographic could be a great source of votes for them! Unlike the liberal Hollywood elite, the old school cartoons do not necessarily lean heavily to the left. In fact, my initial analysis suggests that the party lines are actually split pretty evenly.

    Cartoons for MCCAIN/ PALIN

Elmer Fudd - Not only is Elmer Fudd a longtime, gun-toting member of the NRA, he's also a rich multi-millionaire who definitely does not want to "spread the wealth around" under Obama's tax plan.

Tweetybird - Due to the rise of terrorism, Tweety no longer feels safe and has been living in fear. He likes McCain's experience with national security and strongly supports his aggressive tactics with the War on Terror. Tweety is also worried about the rumors regarding Barack Hussein Obama palling around with terrorists.

Donald Duck - Although he normally dons a sailor suit, Donald Duck actually served in the army during WWII, as documented in his movie "Commando Duck" (although that could just be a reference to his habit of not wearing any pants). Of course, Donald plans to vote for McCain, a true war hero.

Fred & Wilma Flintstone and Barney & Betty Rubble - These four are part of the conservative GOP base that was highly energized by the VP pick Sarah Palin. The Flintstones and Rubbles are very excited about voting for a candidate who recognizes the truth that humans and dinosaurs coexisted at the same time.

    Cartoons for OBAMA/ BIDEN

Mickey & Minnie Mouse - The famous duo have publicly endorsed Obama, as evidenced by these popular tees. It's widely assumed that Mickey and Minnie Mouse support Obama because they share the same signature ears.

Homer & Marge Simpson - With her progressive daughter Lisa ardently campaigning for Obama, Marge will surely be swayed to vote Democrat this election. (She leans Democratic anyway and actually voted twice for Jimmy Carter.)
Homer, who works at a nuclear power plant, is happy to hear that Obama's energy plans include expansion of nuclear power. As for the Republican energy plans, Homer isn't quite sure what to make of Palin's talk to promote "nucular"(new-cue-lurr) power. What does that word mean, anyway? Doh!

Bugs Bunny - His thick Brooklyn accent and obnoxious attitude clearly indicate that Bugs Bunny hails from NYC, a not-so-"pro-America" part of the country. After years of constant carrot-nibbling and "Doc" references, he's eager to get covered by Obama's universal healthcare plan. Additionally, Bugs is very pro-immigration and has been involved in inter-country tunnel-digging between locations such as the US and Mexico.

Felix the Cat - This was a tough choice for Felix the Cat because he really likes McCain for sentimental reasons. They both shared lots of great times together in the roaring '20s. But ultimately, he decided to vote Obama to support a fellow black brother.

Bullwinkle Moose - It should be immediately evident why Bullwinkle Moose is deathly afraid of Sarah Palin. Not only does she hunt moose from a helicopter (just imagine what she can do from Marine One...), she's also now promoting and glorifying gun violence against his kind with rap videos.

My preliminary analysis indicates that the cartoon vote is split evenly: 7 votes for McCain/ Palin and 7 votes for Obama/ Biden.

What do you think? Would the cartoon demographic vote Democratic or Republican in the upcoming election? And I know I missed a slew of characters. Feel free to add your input on which cartoon characters would vote for which ticket!

    Cartoon Vote: Analysis Updates

Charlie Brown - Charlie Brown would feel insecure no matter who wins (observation by streetphotos). So he's probably one of those still-undecided voters. Good grief! What are you waiting for, Charlie Brown?

Hentai - Hentai characters are not US citizens (pointed out by Esch99), so they technically can't vote. But if they could vote, I think they'd vote Democratic to support pro-choice policies. Accidental pregnancies seem to be a likely occupational hazard for them. I haven't noticed much protection being used in their industry...

Casper the Ghost - Casper the ghost is also technically unable to vote because he's deceased. But if he could vote, I have a feeling that Casper would lean towards McCain because they share the same skin color: Ghostly White.

There are more insightful and clever comments from readers that I didn't get a chance to post in this update. They're all great! KEEP 'EM COMING, guys!
