My Scraping is Scrapier than Your Scraping
After almost 10 years with me, Derek has definitely learned a thing or two about communicating with women.Sherry: How come we have to scrape the fence first? Why can't we just skip this part and paint over it?
Derek: Well, it's sort of like exfoliating before you tan.
Sherry: Oooooh! [ LIGHTBULB ]
Top center = BEFORE, Bottom right = AFTER (run, squirrel, run!)
Bottom left: Holy bristles, Batman! Check out those heavy duty wire bristles. Macro-dermabrasion, anyone?
Fence Scraping from Sherry K on Vimeo.Check out the video of my double-fisted scraping technique. Pretty impressive, huh? Folks, I think I've found my life calling..
If you're my employer and you're wondering why I was scraping fences over the weekend, it's because you don't pay me enough and I need to work odd jobs to make ends meet.
For everyone else, it was because Derek and I got a group of our friends together to volunteer with New York Cares for Hands On NY Day. I wasn't feeling very creative when I registered our group under "Team SherryandDerek." But next year, I'm naming our group "America's Next Top Fence Scrapers."
Go team!
It turned out to be a bright, sunny day and we ended up having even more fun than I imagined. Thanks for coming out and volunteering with us, guys! Can't wait for next time.

I guess I can now add "fence scraping" to my list of odd talents.
ODD TALENTS
- Fence scraping
- Food fighting (You don't want to mess with me)
- Setting things on fire by accident (my cooking, my hair, my dorm, etc)
- Eating copious amounts of dessert (I have a separate stomach for desserts. It also happens to be a bottomless pit)
- Enjoying stomach-lurching rides (I have an unusually strong constitution. I've always loved that feeling of your stomach dropping. I actually find rollercoasters, Freefall drops, and plane turbulence to be incredibly relaxing. Once, I went fishing when the waters were particularly rough. Most of the big, burly men, including some members of the boat's crew, were either puking over the railings or zonked out from the dramamine. But there I was, the little Asian girl who'd never gone fishing before, doing totally fine.
)
What are some of your odd talents?

i'd totally lose if i were in a food fight because i would hide in the corner and eat all the food. har.
odd talent: i can name the approximate year and model of cars effortlessly. it blows my bf away. and i'm not even interested in cars! when i was little, i used to sit by the kitchen window and name all the cars that go by. it's not like i try to remember them - the stuff just come to me. if only my brain can remember more important things like people's birthdays...or their bank account numbers. ;)
how often do you do nycares events?
what a cool experience! you and derek look so cute in that last pic, hehe. :)
Your husband is a smart man!
Talents? Speeding and getting caught by the cops, wasting time, eating a lot of food... waking up late. Some might see these things as a *negative* but I'm a pretty "chipper" person and I think in "happy" ways.
@CreativeMinority - I used to be more active in NY Cares, but then I had a few unpleasant experiences where the team leader did not show up, was not prepared, etc. So this year, I've been volunteering independently of them. But quite a few of my friends have remained active in NY Cares and have had nothing but great experiences. My friend on my left, Brie, is like a NY Cares superstar. She volunteers with them at least 3 times a week! If you have any questions about any particular event or project, I'd be happy to put you in touch with the right people.
hmmm... i can put both legs behind my head.
odd talents? i'm 35 and i can still do the splits. i'm vertually unbeatable in a pillow fight, pictionary, and risk. (to this day i'm still undefeated in all 3) i can hear things that others can't. just the other week i knew that my roommate left the heater, tv, and game system on in the basement cause i was able to hear the hums from all 3 up in the living room where no one else was able to hear it. it blew their minds. i think that is it for odd talents.
You're awesome to volunteer. Now days I don't have time to volunteer because of Matthew. Now I just donate more $$ to my favorite charities.
Odd talents? I guess my best odd talent is the ability to run into walls, corners, tables, chairs. etc...
@joesee22 - I'm really not that awesome. I only volunteer about once a week, which is pretty pathetic considering how much time I devote to eating out and entertainment. But I have several friends who volunteer multiple times a week and their commitment to giving back has been truly inspirational. So I definitely wouldn't say that I'm "awesome".. but it's something I'm working on.
u have taught your husband well and it's great that you are doing volunteer work! odd talents... i can sleep with my eyes half open (freakish i know) and fool people to think that i am still awake listening to them when i am actually zonked out.
the whole exfoliating thing is pretty amazing... even my gay friends wouldnt make comments like that! i love it!
and odd talents.... hmm.... i can write with my toes...
Community service is a lot more self-gratifying than people know. I wish I had more time/motivation to participate more.
now that's communication :)
haha thanks! I am definitely looking to settle down here also!
One of my odd talents is I can fit my fist into my mouth!
...I can sleep with lights on. (Somehow I don't think that counts)
you are the next and upcoming ambidextorus fence scrapper.
that's awesome, i didnt even know there were groups out there like that.
my talents.. well, their not great. that is, not particularly useful in day to day life,
killing things ala, halo, farcry, pretty much any game in which killing things is the goal.
shooting folks, ala laser tag, nerf wars, (havent been paintballing, but im sure i would be decent at it.)
shooting things, ala time crisis, quick and crash(its a quickdraw game, i've managed all 4 stages in less than 4 seconds.. )
they're all destructive, sadly, whenever i try to build, fix or otherwise do anything constructive, it turns out crap. i have no good/creative talents :'(
lol I hope your employers see this!
p.s. I'm a random person passing by.
my sorority sisters and I participate in NY Cares twice a year!!! I think you're awesome for REALLY giving back to your community!!
