A Positive Spin on my Week of Sin
Lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride - the 7 deadly sins. These vices have become so integrated in our daily lives that they've lost much of their negative connotations. In the great American spirit of spreading the blame and sugarcoating the bad, I've decided to put a positive spin on these underrated characteristics.

WEDNESDAY
I attended a lecture by famous architect Frank Gehry, who designed the Stata Center at MIT. (That's me below on the steps.) Not only did he discover his life calling at a very early age, he was able to make a career out of it and become very successful.
Now, I wouldn't say that I covet my neighbor's life. But I definitely can't wait to experience a similar level of job satisfaction and success.
I am not ENVIOUS. I just have HIGH EXPECTATIONS.
... I mean, if he can make it (reference absurd and hideous building above), then surely I can too!THURSDAY
I met up with some friends at Robert's Steakhouse inside the Penthouse Executive club, where the women have not enough meat on their bones, but plenty of bones on their meat. For dinner, I really enjoyed the juicy and plump rack ...of lamb.

However, we are not LUSTFUL. We are just PATRONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION.
You too should do your civic duty and support the local college girls putting themselves through (insert med, art, law, etc.) school. And remember to leave a big tip for those single mothers who are saving up for their kids' tuitions. We should all do our part to make sure that No Girl-Gone-Wild is Left Behind.
FRIDAY
27 cupcakes from 5 different bakeries divided amongst 7 people who had just finished off over 35 ounces of burgers loaded with toppings, multiple thick milkshakes, and trays of fries for dinner. We might as well have melted sticks of butter and taken it intravenously.
Do the math. We are not GLUTTONS. We are actually OVERACHIEVING CONSUMERS. We will definitely score higher than you on our cholesterol exams.
SATURDAY
Was supposed to swiffer, wash dishes, organize multiple piles of junk, update flickr, and complete visa applications for upcoming trip. Instead, did absolutely nothing. Also too lazy to use pronouns.
Do not be fooled by my inactivity. I am not a SLOTH. I am an ENERGY CONSERVATIONIST. You won't find me guilty of contributing to the Clean-House Effect.
SUNDAY
I admit that one of my ulterior motives for donating clothing was to make room in my limited closet for new clothes. For our heavy-duty shopping, Derek and I actually drove to the outlets in NJ and proceeded to provide mini-bail-outs to suffering retailers. The economic outcast may not look so bright right now, but we are no fair-weathered shoppers.

[Note: Not our actual shopping bags. Images from Google and Flickr]We are not GREEDY. We are just RETAIL-ORIENTED.
TANGENTIAL THOUGHTS
- If my bearded friend in the cupcake montage looks familiar, that's because he was cast as a pirate in Pirates of the Caribbean 3. (Ladies, he is single and looking for booty to pillage... Arrrrrg!)
- The business model for strip clubs is so clever. Think about it... The strippers pay the club for permission to work there ($220 per night)! I need to open up a business where my employees pay me.
- The friends who accompanied me to the Penthouse club were on a mission to find the smartest stripper.
- I should have expected a stunt like this, considering that they were guys and gals from my super geeky alma mater.
- They asked the dancers a very basic brainteaser:
- What's the degree of the angle between the minute hand and the hour hand at 3:15?
- They actually found one stripper who figured it out!
- (Well, almost. She got the formula right, but was too lazy to do the math.)
- Of course, she was Asian.
PRIDE & WRATH
You may have noticed that I didn't include Pride and Wrath. Only because I couldn't fit them into my "week of sin" theme. (Please, all 7 deadly sins within 7 consecutive days? How devilish do you think I am?
)Although I didn't cover them, I do think that they also deserve a second chance. How about it? Any takers for positive spins on Pride and Wrath?

Asian strippers, FTW!! Haha... She's probably a med student.
It also blew my mind away when i found out that strippers have to pay to work at strip clubs. Girls paying just so they can take their clothes off. Pure genius.
I'm dying to know which cupcake won the taste test...
(5/4)*6 = 30/4 so 7.5 degrees
c'mon someone had to do it
and i'm gunna look stupid if i'm wrong :p
That looks like a fun week, I don't know why you have to bring sin into it

I really like this entry!
Also, it makes me really happy to know that I'm not smart enough (and rich enough) to be a stripper... all of the energy going into higher education is not because of choice, but of necessity - if I don't succeed here, I surely can't take everything off to make some bucks.
Dear Sherry,
This is a cute article. I can't speak for wrath, but I always felt is was okay to have a modicum of pride for one's work, or art, or accomplishments. I can remember that one of the slogans in high school was 'BE PROUD". The school never had any banners hung around campus reading "BE GREEDY", etc.
Thank you for subscribing to my blog. I offer a mix of my own poetry, prose, photography and videos. And I must admit, I'm pretty dang proud of it.

I loved this post! I no longer need feel guilty as I am not the sinner I once thought I was. I am excellent at energy conservation!

How was Robert's Steakhouse??
Are you smarter than a stripper? I have to say "no" I thought that the angle would be 0 degrees... But the hour hand would have moved a quarter of the way to the 4 so 360/12=30 and a quarter of 30 would be 7.5 and it looks like your buddy Yosho was correct.
so, how was roberts? making the top 5? and you did do the cupcakes! who won? ;)
@mrs_shagalove - Overall, Robert's was great. The porterhouse was much better than, say, Peter Luger's. Unfortunately, the ribeye was undercooked and my husband actually asked for it to be taken back and done right. The best dish, imo, was the rack of lamb. It was very flavorful and tender. Sides and dessert were great too.
@huinita - It's funny.. After our own cupcake tasting fell through, my friend Joyce emailed out to organize one! We actually didn't get to evaluate all the bakeries we wanted to. We didn't cover: Crumbs, Sugar Sweet Sunshine, Batch, Babycakes, or Purple Dots. So there may be a *Round 2* after Joyce gets back from South Africa. You interested?
@cancunwedding - I'll be sure to post about it sometime in the future.
Maybe after Round 2....
well done! perhaps i'll try to pull of 7 deadly sins in a week as well!
mmm...rack!
Nicely done!
you didn't go to caltech did you?
@CreativeMinority - No, I didn't. I went to MIT. Why?
just because you referred to caltech in a positive light. why didn't you use mit as an example then?
@CreativeMinority - No particular reason. I just stumbled across your blog and thought your question was interesting so I left a quick comment. And I *do* happen to regard Caltech students in a positive light. I've worked with lots Caltech alum. They're very smart!
mit people are supposed to be too.
but my friends who went there try to disprove that every chance they get. :P
You are so clever.............enjoyed this entry mucho.
